Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan was born on 27 December 1797 in Agra and died 15 February 1869 in Delhi. His pen name was Asad, he became famous the name of Galib.Galib was a greatest and famous poet of Urdu and Persian language.In 1850, Galib received “Dabber-e-Mulk” and “Najm-ud-daulah” named by Bahadur Shah Zafar 2. Later he received “Mirza Nosha”. Bahadur Shah Zafar was a great poet himself. Galib was appointed teacher the eldest son of Prince Bahadur Shah Zafar2. His name was Fakhr-ud-Din Mirza. He wrote several ghazals during his life. His ghazals have been sung in different ways by many different people and many movies and plays have been done.
Mirza Galib was born in Agra. His grandfather was Mirza Quban Baig Khan. His father was Mirza Abdullah Baig Khan and mother was Izzat-ut-Nisa-Begum. After marriage he lived in the house of his father-in-law. He was active by the Nawab of Lucknow and then the Nizam of Hyderabad. He died in a battle 1803 in Alwar.Then Galib was only 5 years old. His Uncle was Nasrullah Bag Khan. When galib orphaned he lived with his uncle.After 4 year his uncle was too died.
At the age of 13 Galib got married with Umrao Begum. She was the daughter of Nawab llahi Baksh. After marriage he moved to Delhi with his younger brother Yusuf Ali Khan. At the age of thirty he has seven children. All his children died during infancy.This pain has found in some of Galib’s Ghazals.Galib adopted his wife's nephew Zainul Abidin Arif.Galib truel loves to Arif. But at a young age Arif too died.It was so painful for Galib. This pain is also found in Galib's Gazal.Galib wrote,
Jate hue kahte ho qayamat ko milenge.
Kya khub, qayamat ka h goya koi din aur
Drinking and gambling was weakness of Ghalib. Gambling was a crime that time but galib never care about it. He said about himself, he was not a strict Muslim. Galib wrote :
Peene de masjid mein baith kar
Ya wo jagah bata jaha khuda nahi.
Galib started to writing at the age of 11. Many elucidations of galib ghazal have been written by Urdu scholars. The first elucidation was written by Ali Haider Nazm Tabatabai of Hyderabad during the rule of the last Nizam of Hyderabad. Love Sonnets of Galib was the first complete English translation of Galib's Ghazal.This book was written by Sarfaraz.K.Niazi and published by Rupa & Co in India and Ferozsons in Pakistan. It is said that Galib was a gifted letter writer. He made his letters as “talk” with the reader by using words and sentences.
Galib lived 50 years in Gali Qasim Jaan, Chandni Chowk, in Old Delhi but never bought a house for his own. His life was full of struggle. Galib died on 15 February 1869 in Delhi. His house known as Galib ki Haweli which is now converted to 'Galib Memorial'. meant for exhibition.
Galib’s education can not be said more about. But at the age of 11 Galib started to saying Urdu and Persian poetry and had begun to write. When Galib was child a converted muslim tourist came to Agra from Iran. His name was (abdus Samad original name Hormuz). He stayed at Ghalib’s home for two years. Galib learned Persian , Arabic, Philosphy and Logic by him. When Galib moved to Delhi, soon he became the master of the Persian language. Galib was always proud of his Persian poetry. But today he is more famous for his Urdu ghazals.
